Delhi has Made Significant Progress in Transport Infrastructure

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, November 27, 2013 — (Business Wire India) — In a country with a huge population, transportation is a key factor impacting quality of life. Delhi has made tremendous progress in its transport infrastructure in the last 15 years: a world-class metro system, newer and wider roads, modern bus system and a network of flyovers and foot over-bridges. It is a giant leap forward from 1997-98 when the present Congress Government came to power.

With the challenges faced in Delhi post 1997-98, Congress had a mammoth task of transforming a city that was breaking down. Taking into account that an average of 1400 new vehicles were being added on the roads every day, the road network had to be planned very carefully.

— Widening of the Ring Road

— Widening and beautification of of all major 80 feet plus roads

— PWD has taken over 802 Kms of 60 feet roads From MCD.

— New street lights and new signage are being put up on the entire 802 Kms stretch of these roads.

— Streetlights increased from 2 lakh in 2002 to over 5 lakh today

Flyovers and bridges in Delhi

— Signature Bridge construction is an Icon for Delhi

— Delhi is the only state in India that does not have a single PPP road

— One bridge added to ease traffic across Yamuna at Geeta Colony

— Delhi Metro line is spread over 194 Kms has more than 23 lakh daily commuters.

— The first route of the Mono Rail Project is carved from Shastri Park to Trilokpuri (12-14 Kms)

— Delhi has the largest CNG-driven Public transport system in the World with 5,900 Delhi Transport Corporation buses, 6,000 Grameen Seva buses for rural Delhi

— Introduction of Economy Radio Taxi Service for providing taxi services

— There are 27 Women Special Buses running from none earlier

— DTC has been awarded as a best State Transport Undertaking for passenger’s safety for three consecutive years i.e. for 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2012
