ELCINA Electronic Industries Association of India and Vittal Innovation City to Set-Up Electronics Manufacturing Clusters in India

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, February 03, 2012 — (Business Wire India) — Key Announcement Highlights

— ELCINA members and VIC have agreed to set-up a joint venture to promote clusters for electronics component and equipment manufacturing across the country. The first cluster is expected to come up in North India, near NCR in one year. It will involve participation of the members interested in investing in setting up facilities in this area.

— Each cluster will be developed in 100+ acres of land will attract upto Rs 1000 crores of investment, and create 15,000 direct jobs.

— The members of ELCINA participating in the Joint Venture will also invest setting up their manufacturing facilities at the cluster. The cluster will also attract international electronics component manufacturers to invest in India.

— The cluster will house education facilities for manpower development, research facilities for intellectual property development, testing laboratories, incubation centres, common office infrastructure, packaging and supply chain support for providing the comprehensive eco-system.

— The responsibility of running the cluster will be held jointly between ELCINA and VIC, based on their respective strengths.

— The MOU was signed between ELCINA and VIC on 3 February, 2012 at Delhi.

In order to accelerate investments in high value added electronics manufacturing in the country, ELCINA is setting up the first Model Cluster consisting largely of SME’s to manufacture electronic components and products for the Consumer Electronics, Power Electronics and Lighting industry.
ELCINA and Vittal Innovation City have agreed to partner for developing this Cluster for electronics component and equipment manufacturing and propel the growth of electronics industry in India. The cluster will also provide Knowledge based services, manufacturing, R&D and incubation activities inspired by global hi-tech innovation clusters like Silicon Valley in the US, Hsinchu in Taiwan, Tsukuba in Japan.

Each cluster will be about 100 acres, will attract investment of upto Rs 1000 Crores, and create over 15,000 direct jobs. The first cluster is proposed to be located at North India near Delhi within one year.

Members of ELCINA interested in setting up manufacturing facilities at this location have come together to participate in a Joint Venture and are partnering with Vittal Innovation City. The participating members will invest in setting up their manufacturing facilities in this Cluster, jumpstarting the growth of this industry. The cluster also aims to attract investments from global component manufacturers for the overall growth of this industry and technology acquisition. The cluster will be jointly run by the members of ELCINA and VIC, based on their respective strengths.

An MOU was signed between VIC and ELCINA on 3 February, by Mr. N. Vittal, Chairman, Vittal Innovation City and Mr. Pawan Sharma, Vice President, ELCINA at New Delhi.

ELCINA President Mr T Vasu said “This is a very important initiative for the industry as Department of IT has advised us to establish the first such Model Cluster and prove that we have conceptualized the right Cluster Model for the country. The Draft National Electronics Policy 2011 envisages setting up 200 such Clusters in the country and we hope to contribute significantly to this initiative”.

Vittal Innovation City already has an MOU with Institute of Information Technology (III), Taiwan to promote the cluster with the Taiwanese electronics companies, and with the Korean Government to promote the cluster for Hi-tech Korean companies.
