Top Indian CISOs Chart Out Security Strategy for 2020 at 9.9 Media’s CSO Summit

Pune, Maharashtra, India, Friday, December 09, 2011 — (Business Wire India) — CSO Forum, the largest community of Chief Information Security officers in India, concluded the 4th Chapter of its Annual event, “CSO Summit” at Corinthian’s Club, Pune on December 3rd. The theme for this year’s event was “Security 2020”. With close to a 100 participants from some of the most influential organisations in the country, the summit highlighted the key security concerns that Indian organisations must focus on for the next decade.

Attended by CISOs, subject experts and partners, the Summit was a great success and is now a permanent entry in their annual calendars. The Summit was sponsored by Juniper, Trend Micro, Oracle, Fortinet, Aujas, SafeNet, Paladion, iViz, ESET, Ace Data and RSA. The keynote was delivered by Richard Stiennon, author of Surviving Cyberwar. Stiennon emphasised that countering targeted attacks calls for new measures. “One of those measures is creation of specialised teams that are not bogged down in the day to day tasks of blocking viruses and cleaning up machines,” he said.

Mahender Negi, CFO & COO, Trend Micro said, “CFOs are sceptical of new technologies and so CISOs need to convince the CFO about security budgets by showing which risks they are managing for’. Anuradha Das Mathur, Founder and Director, 9.9 Media added, “CISOs will soon need to view their function as a P&L within the company. They are like the CEOs for security and will have to find a way to justify the cost by either showing the savings delivered or presenting a strong RoSI.”

Talking about the increasing number of risks in enterprises, Pankaj Agrawal, CISO, Aircel said, “With convergence and increased complexities in IT infrastructure, devices, telecom networks and user services, the ‘Enterprise Ecosystem’ is expanding rapidly. This demands even greater emphasis on third party/ vendor security governance, through disciplined analysis and actionable risk management.”

There were interesting debates on whether companies could disallow social media on the basis of enterprise security and for how long. CISOs present concluded that the answer lies in finding a secure way to deal with multiple devices – there was no going back on the trend.

A leadership workshop, a simulation game to build a mobile application and a friendly night cricket tournament added just the right degree of fun to a ‘content-led’ programme, 9.9 Media is one of India’s most diversified media companies that integrates its print, online, research and event platforms to serve highly-targeted communities such as Owner-Managers / Entrepreneurs, CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, CFOs, Manufacturing & Logistics professionals, IT professionals, Channel partners, Gamers, Personal technology enthusiasts and those leading institutes of higher education.
