Chitkara Business School Wins Dainik Bhaskar B-School Leadership Award

Chandigarh, Punjab, India, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 — (Business Wire India) — Chitkara Business School, region’s leading management education institution under the Chitkara University, has won the prestigious Dainik Bhaskar B-School Leadership Award 2010. Chitkara Business School was awarded the honour for its contribution to the advancement of management education practices.

Speaking on the award, Dr. Ashok Chitkara, Chancellor, Chitkara University said, “We take pleasure in announcing that Chitkara Business School has won this year’s B-School Leadership Award by Dainik Bhaskar Group. At Chitkara, we always have the vision of establishing educational methodologies that go beyond teaching mere traditional theory. Such awards are a testimony to the hardwork and innovative thinking put in by our faculty & course designers over the last few years. We pledge to continue our humble efforts in redefining educational practices in India.”

Chitkara Business School has introduced innovative MBA curriculum which replaces courses in finance, marketing and other subjects that have been the mainstay of business education for the last 50 years, with multidisciplinary courses that cut across functional boundaries to provide management education in a richer, more relevant context. Chitkara’s new approach aligns the way management is taught with the way managers operate every day and challenges students to shape their career goals around their personal values and aspirations.

“No executive wakes up in the morning and thinks ‘I’m going to do finance today’. So it doesn’t make sense for students to sit in a finance class and learn to crunch numbers absent of any context,” says Prof SR Taneja, Dean, Chitkara Business School who has been instrumental in generating this innovation at Chitkara University.

“From my conversations with business school deans and corporate executives, there is a broad consensus that the traditional MBA curriculum is disconnected from the management profession. I am honored to be a part of the community at Chitkara Business School that has shown the resolve to take the lead in responding to that disconnect by creating a whole new model of what management education can and should be.” remarked Dr (Brig) RS Grewal, Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University.

In today’s time, a successful manager must be able to identify & frame business problems and move across a variety of organizational and geographic boundaries to solve those problems. The new curriculum at Chitkara Business School teaches the integrated skills contemporary managers need.

Also, as part of its MBA curriculum innovation, Chitkara Business School has made it compulsory for students to complete part of their studies abroad. Between the first and second semesters, students will complete a required two-week International experience where they will be rapidly immersed in a new environment, engage in intensive study, meet with business and government leaders, and complete a trip project. For this academic year, the list of countries for these faculty-led trips includes China, USA, Europe and Singapore. The insight students’ gain during the experience will allow them to bring a global perspective back to classroom discussions.

Chitkara Business School currently offers a two-year full-time MBA degree, an MBA for Executives program tailored for health care professionals, a PhD program, and Executive Education programs. Chitkara University has been enacted by the Himachal Pradesh State Legislature under the “Chitkara University Act”.
